Michael Durant was living in Boston working in construction when his dad told him that Barbers of the Lowcountry was starting The Barber College.

“I hopped on the plane,” said Durant who recently graduated from the barbershop school.

Durant is now an intermediate barber, which means he received his barber license and continues to learn the Barbers of the Lowcountry’s technique to the straight razor shave.

“I have always wanted to become a barber,” said Durant. “ … I’m used to the process and I like the atmosphere.”

George Lawson also recently joined the team as an intermediate barber. Lawson’s barbering experience goes back 25 years. He previously worked at Ron’s Barber Shop in Beaufort.

“I get great satisfaction from making people look their best,” Lawson said.
